Chicago UIC Herpes vaccine Clinical trial.

Project Wish is looking for volunteers for their herpes clinical trial at UIC in Chicago.

Project Wish, a clinical research site, out of University of Illinois at Chicago just let us know that they are launching a new herpes vaccine clinical trial and they are now enrolling volunteers.  This is a PAID trial so you will be compensated for your time.  Basically, they are looking for people aged 18-50 who are suffering from genital herpes.  This study is being conducted to test the effectiveness of an investigational vaccine for HSV-2 in lowering the number of outbreaks.

The study will be closing enrollment soon so you will need to contact Gina Harden ASAP at 312-413-5897 or Ginaha@uic.edu.

Update: Enrollment ends on 3/31/2017

Here are the details of the study:
Study compensation ranges from $50-$100 depending on visit type. There will be a total of 12 visits.

Project WISH at UIC is now recruiting participants for the Vical HSV2 201 study!

Title:
A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Phase 2 Trial to Evaluate the Safety and Efficacy of Herpes Simplex Virus, Type 2 (HSV-2) Therapeutic DNA Vaccine in Adults with Symptomatic Genital HSV-2 Infection.

Objective:
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of 4 doses of VCL-HB01, a therapeutic HSV plasmid DNA vaccine formulated with Vaxfectin® in HSV-2-seropositive adults with a reported history of genital herpes with 4 to 9 recurrences in the prior year in the absence of suppressive antiviral therapy or in the year prior to starting suppressive antiviral therapy.

Study Design:
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, Phase 2 trial.

Active Investigational Product:
VCL-HB01: 2 mg VCL-2153 (gD) + 2 mg VCL-2151
(UL46), administered intramuscularly (IM)

Basic criteria:
Ages 18 to 50
Diagnosis of HSV-2 seropositivity with reported history of genital herpes for a minimum of one year with multiple recurrences
HIV negative

Duration of study:
16 months.  Participants will be compensated for their time.

This is not a clinical trial for a herpes cure, rather it is a vaccine that also may reduce the number of outbreaks.  As always, it is exciting to see research being done.  So, if you live in or around the Chicago area and want to participate then please contact Gina Harden.

If you live near Lexington, KY then the Central Kentucky Research Associates are still enrolling volunteers for their investigational therapeutic vaccine for HSV-2.   That information can be found HERE.

If there will ever be a cure for herpes then volunteers for clinical trials, like these, are needed.

Stay strong and live well.
