It is the members who make this site what it is and they join for many reasons. Some come for friendship and information while others come for the support they cannot get anywhere else. Please Note: These herpes groups (HPV, too) are not run by HWerks. They are run by awesome volunteers! While some groups may focus on support, others may be purely social. Local groups are just another way to meet people in your area and are a great asset to the community! Not all group members are a member of HWerks and vice versa. Bay Area Friends (BAF) is a FREE social and support group for people with genital herpes (HSV-1, HSV-2) who live in the San Francisco Bay Area. We welcome anyone over 18 who is interested in making new friends, organizing fun activities, and meeting others who share our surprisingly common situation.

Founded in 1997, BAF has grown to nearly 2000 members and we are one of the largest and most active “H” social groups in the world. Bay Area Friends’ Meetup Group is completely private. Nobody can see our group’s members or activities except other members. Please join Bay Area Friends on Meetup!

BAF is not a herpes dating service and provides no personal ads. Instead, we plan social events and activities to allow you, the members, to meet each other in a supportive, relaxed atmosphere. It’s mostly about making new friends and having fun together. We strive to make everyone feel welcome and accepted, just as they are. All we ask is that you “pay it forward” and also be welcoming and accepting to everyone in the group. Although most members are single, couples are also welcome to attend our events. This is a social site for people with Herpes & HPV. This is not just a dating site. Some have met their loves at our events, and many have found great friendship with others who understand what it is like to have H.

If you have HPV (warts) only, you are welcome to join this group, we are primarily a Herpes social but many here have both viruses. HPV, the virus that causes a wart, is NOT always a lifetime virus so understand this if you become involved with someone with Herpes. Herpes is a lifetime virus. HPV has many different strains so being with someone that has HPV may make you prone to another form of the HPV virus. Know the facts and be safe. The CDC’s webpage has great information on it.

Herpes/HPV won’t stop us from living a full life. Being social is the first step to taking back your power, finding great love and friendships, and living happily.
