The HWerks private Facebook Group is now live! Things have been exciting and BUSY over here at HWerks with the launch of our new site! So many new and returning faces. So, we apologize for the delay in getting this group going as it just took longer than anticipated. We sent out an email for our newsletter and people are trickling in.
We get a ton of emails from people asking how they can join a Facebook group for others with herpes. There are 100’s of “Secret” Facebook groups out there and most of them are local or cover a region in the less populated areas. The problem with a secret group is that you have to be invited by a current member of that group after a friend request is sent.
Secret groups cannot be found with a search. Unless you are a member, you can’t find it. This is just how Facebook designed them to work. This makes secret groups very difficult for people to join, especially if they are newly diagnosed or searching for others in their area.
Now, we have our own secret group for our members. From there, members are able to get into local groups in their area to expand their network of friends. Well, it is such a success that we decided to help others in our “Situation” and open a Facebook group for non-members.

Unlike a secret group, this new group is “Private.” Like a secret group, you still have to be a member of the group to see anything on the inside, including members. The big difference between the two are as follows:

1. A private group is searchable
While secret groups are hidden from the public, a private group can be found with a search on Facebook.
2. Others can request to join
Since the group can be found with a search, others can request to join the group. This is a good for people who are looking for a herpes Facebook group.
Now, you may be thinking that just anybody can join and may be worried about your privacy but we did put some security measures in place. Hopefully, this will put many at ease and encourage them to join.
So, How Does It Work?
Nothing herpes related is mentioned on the outside of the group, nor will it ever. It sounds like a generic group when others see it. We totally understand the privacy concerns and the sensitivity of this sort of thing. When members join the group, they must be approved before being allowed into the group.
There are a series of three questions that will have to be answered correctly before being approved. These answers are provided when one signs up for our newsletter and after their email address has been verified. These steps will ensure that the people wanting to join the group can get in.
Current members of the group can invite their friends who also have herpes. Current HWerks members can also join if they like. The more the merrier, right?
